BIOGRAPHY

South Korean pianist Seolyeong Jeong has distinguished herself internationally as both a soloist and chamber musician. Following her solo debut at Kumho Art Hall in Seoul at age thirteen, she has graced numerous prestigious venues, including Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Morse Recital Hall, Stude Concert Hall, and Seoul Arts Center.

A compelling performer of major concerto repertoire, Jeong has appeared as soloist in numerous significant concerts. Her concerto soloist appearances include Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 with the Shepherd School Chamber Orchestra under Donald Schleicher at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, and Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Beth El Temple Orchestra under conductor Joseph Ness at "The Asian Influence Concert." She has delighted audiences at the American Virtuoso International Music Competition Gala Concert and New York Piano Festival & Competition Gala Concert at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, "Sharing the Spotlight: Celebrating Clara Schumann's 200th Birthday" at Duncan Recital Hall at Shepherd School of Music, the Vista Chamber Music Concert at Morse Recital Hall at Yale School of Music, and "Spirit of SNU Strings III" at IBK Chamber Hall at Seoul Arts Center.

Her exceptional musicianship has earned her numerous prestigious honors, including Second Prize in both Solo Division and Concerto Division at the 2024 International Keyboard Odyssiad Festival & Competition, First Prize at the 2023 American Virtuoso International Music Competition, First Prize and the Audience Choice Prize at the 2022 Young Texas Artists Music Competition, and First Place at the 2022 Shepherd School Concerto Competition. Her earlier accolades include First Prize at the 2016 Connecticut Young Artist Competition, Third Prize and the Award for the Best Performance of a Twentieth-Century Composition at the 2016 New York Piano Festival & Competition, Grand Prize at the 2011 Korean Liszt Competition, First Prize at the 2011 Samick-Seiler Piano Competition, Grand Prize and the Award by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of South Korea at the Sungjung Music Competition, and First Prize at the 2009 Ewha-Kyunghyang Competition.

Jeong's academic journey reflects her dedication to musical and academic excellence. She graduated summa cum laude from Seoul National University before completing her Master of Music and Master of Musical Arts at Yale University. During her time at Yale, she was honored with the Charles S. Miller Prize, awarded to "a gifted pianist who has done outstanding work during the first year of study at Yale School of Music" in 2016, and was chosen as one of the representing soloists at the Yale School of Music Commencement Concert in 2017. She completed her Doctor of Musical Arts from Rice University in May 2024.

Currently, Jeong is an Affiliated Artist and staff pianist coordinator at MIT's Music and Theater Arts, and serves as a collaborative pianist at both the New England Conservatory and the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. She previously held positions as Adjunct Faculty at the University of Tampa and Southeastern University.
